ROUND 1, 1-2 APRIL 2023
The Womens over 35’s team played away against Williamstown on Saturday and really made Willy earn their win.
After Williamstown kicked 3 goals in the first half, we held them scoreless in the 3rd quarter and they managed a very lucky goal in the last.
Our ladies embraced our new running game style which made us super competitive for the full 4 quarters.
Whilst we didn’t score ourselves we had many inside 50’s and at times deep entries that we were unlucky not to convert. Something to work on over the next few weeks.
The whole squad made impressive contributions on Sat, we have a belief we can improve further as a group and push for a win.
Bring on the next game.

With quite a few new players this season it was really good to have 17 players ready to play. Thanks to Andrew and Hooch from the Ressies for helping us out to make up 18 players and one on the bench.
Playing Mordialloc at their ground was a really good game to get first up, great weather and a perfect ground to play on.
We started really well kicking the first couple of goals but they responded and it was about even at quarter time.
For the next 2 quarters even though it looked like we were the much better side it was hard work getting the scoreboard to tick over with only one goal coming in that 2 quarters.
We threw the side around a bit at 3/4 quarter time and the players new they had to respond and get the job done, well it was like a completely new team, we ran, backed up, first option was to use our teammates by hand and follow them up and we hit our forwards up.
It was just about as good a quarter of footy as you would see, the backs stopped everything and anything that came their way and the execution to hit up the next player forward was excellent.
The onballers capitalised on the good work from the backs and our dominance in the ruck to bust the game open with their run.
The forwards found space and played in front, producing a a heap of last quarter goals.
It was a great team effort to get the win away and to kick our season off.

Round 1 and a great way to start the season with a come from behind win. Having multiple players out, the team showed great spirit and persistence all day to come through with the 4 points. Having been 13 points down at 3qtr time, the boys totally outplayed Mordialloc in the final quarter to keep them scoreless to get up by 8 points after the siren. The 'never give up' attitude was present across the entire team including new players Sammy, Salvatore and Brett who all contributed well. A great way to start the season and set the benchmark for the next round! A special thanks to the 50' boys who chipped in on the day, much appreciated.
50s whites playing last year and year before premiers in Geelong. We started the game so well, having a 20 point lead at half time. Quick ball movement with our forwards dominating Mental lapses in the 3rd quarter as we couldn’t win the contested ball which gave Geelong the ascendancy.Geelong kicked 4 goals to 0. The last quarter was a real struggles for both sides with 1 goal each. 2 point lead to us with 2 minutes to go but unfortunately we couldn’t hang on. So proud of our playing group. We played some great footy and I look forward to the return match with Geelong.
With some new players and perfect morning weather for football, the team were asked to get off to a good start and play team football. The response from the team was A1 and after dominating contested football all day we came away with a strong win. Special mention to the whole team for keeping the opposition goalless. A great team game with every player involved.
