Saturday 11 February 2017
Well footy is back. Our preseason kicked off last week and I’m sure everyone is ready to put in the hard yards over the coming weeks. So what has the committee been up to. Well it’s been a big start to the year and we have been working very hard on planning for 2017. This year we are set to have some big stories, some big goals and most of all heap of success on an off the field. Yesterday the first real big story broke. #COACHWIZ. Scott Ryan, a living legend of the club, has taken up the coaching role for the Reserves for 2017. I’m sure we all agree that there wouldn’t be any person better for the job. On behalf of the players, the coaches, the committee and the entire Coburg Superules family wish you all the best Scotty. Well 2017 will start on the 9Th of April. There are no back to back games or three week gaps. It is a 10 team competition. A 10 team comp means we play everyone once and one team twice. 5 away games and 5 home games. We do have the dreaded drive to Beaky again as well as Parkdale away, however Willy (for the 3rd time in a row) & Frankston will have to trek out to Piranha Park. As its stands this is not a bad fixture. In one of the earlier editions of a fixture we had Beaky, Frankston, Dingley and Willy Away, however we have been working with the league and the result of what they could assist with is below. We thank the league for their understanding and support. As always we are looking to play at least one practice match prior to the round one start date. Adam Bruni (Senior Coach) and Craig McKay (Football Operations Manager) consulted on the topic and with their blessing we have successfully organised a practice match with Diamond Valley Football Club on the 26th of March (2 weeks prior to round 1). The game is scheduled to be played at Shelley Park – North Heidelberg Football Club. We thank both clubs for their speed and professionalism in helping to organise this match. As some of you are aware the 2nd of January a club fundraising event took place. The Bunnings Sausage Sizzle held at the Coburg location. The event made over $1,500 in profit and has helped the club to sit in a better financial position than what we were in the same time last year. Firstly I would like to thank Steve Moss & Riddersfresh who sponsored our event, their support is invaluable to the club and critical to the clubs financial position. From everyone at Coburg Superules we thank you. Of course a sausage sizzle can’t happen without people power and even on a public holiday we were able to deliver as a team. Thank you to everyone who assisted and organised, again your help and support is why the club operate as a football club. Financially a club can’t function unless they can raise enough funds throughout the year to operate. The direction we have taken as a committee for 2017 is to run the club as we would a business, to ensure the clubs longevity and to create an environment where we can attract more members, people and players to club by offering a better experience. A better experience is obviously more expensive so the club needs to find ways to raise funds or gain sponsors who will either contribute financially or with goods/services. I think we would all be pleased to know that the Committee and the Sponsorship team have been working on this and we have had great success already. We will endeavour to keep everyone informed as those sponsorship deals are finalised. Last week a meeting between Coburg VFL and Coburg Superules took place. The main focus on agenda was to strength our relationship and work on ways to connect with each other for mutual benefit. Without a doubt Coburg VFL should be seen as one of our top end sponsors and in 2017 the connection between us and our big brother will grow. Watch this space. Some maybe asking what’s happening with the North Heidelberg opportunity, well it is well on its well and we are hopefully of sharing some news on this subject in the coming days. I think it’s important we all bear in mind that every opportunity involving two clubs needs to go to two committees and that takes time. We hope to have more on this in the next two weeks. What about the footy. Well the footy is for the coaches and the football operations manager to talk about. The committee is doing all it can to help support the football department, the coaches and the players, however like all good committees, we are leaving the football to those who know best. Family Day / Season Launch is just about ready to announce with a few minor details being sorted and confirmed. We will send out some further communication on this once we have locked in a date and time. We have so much more to share in the coming days, it’s our time to shine. #UNLEASH THE LION #25YEARSSTRONG #COBURGSUPERULES Well the 2016 year is just about done and what a huge year it has been.
This is our first official correspondence as Co-Presidents and before we head into the exciting details of what the committee has been able to achieve we would like to take this moment to talk about the year gone by. Firstly we would like to thank the previous committee for all their time and hard work. While most of the previous committee has stayed on board, there were a few members who have had to step down and from all of us at Coburg Superules we say thank you. Moving forward in 2017 we now have more people on the Executive & General committee than ever before and to achieve what we have set out to do we will require all of those people to assist in some capacity. We are overwhelmed with the support that has been offered from everyone and we hope to be able to deliver on all of the goals set out below. As a committee we would like to continue with the goals of the previous committee and build on that to make our club as great as it can be for 2017 and beyond. So what are our goals…..
On the 2nd of Jan 2017 we have been lucky enough to secure a Sausage Sizzle Fundraising site at Bunnings. We really need the assistance of anyone who can attend. Even if it’s for 1 hour that would assist us greatly. Please contact Pete Cummins if you can help out. Also training for 2017 starts Feb 4. We would love to get a huge turnout for that session. Please get the word around and let’s make it the best start to a season in the clubs history. One of our major goals this year and moving forward is to be accessible to all members and to be in a position to provide updates at all times. Please feel free to contact either of us at any stage. We would also like to thank Pete Cummins for all of his support and assistance in these early stages of our appointment. Your support, effort & time is very much appreciated Pete. Carlo – 0408 589 992 / [email protected] Tony – 0433 223 278 / [email protected] So while we head into the break stay safe over Christmas and New Year’s, enjoy the festivities and for all the players, try to stay fit for a big 2017 season. 2017 will be the year of the LION. |
