Coburg Bows Out Of The Finals

28/8/2017

Coburg’s history making season came to an end on Sunday as both the Supers and Reserves bowed out in the Semi Finals.

The Supers effort couldn’t be questioned but Marcellin were cleaner in transition and were able to navigate the congestion and spread better than Coburg.

Coburg took it up to Marcellin after the main break and attacked relentlessly without reward or scoreboard pressure in third term.

A 46-point loss is hardly the reflective of the match with Marcellin landing a handful of junk time goals late in the game. Coburg will be better for the experience and will go into the 2018 season with momentum.

A brief hail storm greeted the Reserves in the early game against Parkdale where Coburg were 2-points down and within striking distance at ¾ time in a low scoring affair before Parkdale’s endeavour got the better of Coburg in the last stanza. Injuries to Mick Noble and Carlo Federico didn’t help their cause as they went down by 15-points.

Disappointing day for Mick Noble and Pete Cummins who were playing their 100th and 50th games for the club respectively but all in all Coburg achieved this season’s objective of making finals. This stands the club in good stead for a tilt at the premiership in 2018. All players and officials of club should be proud of their effort, commitment and selflessness throughout the season.

The season will wind up with Mad Friday (TBA) and Presentation Night on the 28th of October 2017.

Coburg Storm Into The Finals

13/8/2017

In a massive day for the club, Coburg Supers secured a finals berth and retained the Foundation Cup in a 104-point drubbing of Ascot Vale in the final home and away match, the “Love Me Love You” round.

Love Me Love You Founder Lance Piciaone was on hand to present the trophy to Coburg Captain Mark Gillman and Coach Adam Bruni.

Coburg finished third and will take on Marcellin in the Semi Final in two weeks time at Croft’s Reserve, Altona North. It will be Coburg’s first finals appearance since 2010.

The Reserves who were celebrating Mark “Hotdog” Medley’s 50th game for the club annihilated Ascot Vale by 123-points a which broke the record for the highest winning margin and the highest winning score in Reserve Grade.

In a season full of “firsts” for the club, both Coburg Supers and Reserves are through to the finals and, for the first time in the club’s history the 2’s make the first finals appearance.

The Reserves also finished third on percentage and face Parkdale in the Semi Final.

Despite a great effort the Over 50’s were unable to make it three wins for the club and send Ray “Razor” Ransome who played his 150th for the club out a winner.

They went down to Ascot Vale by 28-points with Ray announcing his retirement from playing after this year’s AFL Masters carnival.

Paul Pitman was proud of the way his chargers went about it during the season and will be hoping for an improved showing with a few more players to graduate to Over 50’s ranks in 2018.
