Coburg Lions (Mustangs) celebrated the 100 game milestone of club stalwart Paul Pitman in the best possible fashion with a 73 point win over Craigieburn.
Pitman affectionately known as "Tangles" topped his day off with a goal from the very last kick of the game after the siren.
It was evident again that the Lions had come to play with a 5 goal to 1 first quarter. By halftime the Lions had maintained their lead of 5 goals against a stubborn opposition who pulled out all stops to reign in the Lion onslaught.
With regular bullocking centre half forward Dean Brincau and legendary full forward Mick Noble both out injured, the Lions went into the game minus huge firepower.
The team were compounded also by the unfortunate red-card to running back Craig Mackay who got tangled up in an accidental contact with his opponent.
Playing with 17 men for the entire 2nd half coach Gubby refused to go into his shell imploring his charges to keep attacking and run over the opposition.
Run over the opposition they did, outscoring their opposition 10 goals to 2 in the second half whilst finishing the last quarter with 16 men after wingman Zahn sustained a hamstring injury.
"It was a gallant performance by the boys and they stuck to their guns playing attacking football regardless of the circumstances", Gubby said.
The highlight of the day apart from the fantastic performances of Alex, Skeebs, Sugar, Vescio, Garry and Snoz was the amazing dropkick Supergoal kicked by Sugar. On an impossible angle of at least 45 degrees and almost fifty metres out, Sugar slotted what can only be described as the goal of the year earning the first nine pointer of the season for the Lions.
