Coburg Lions (Mustangs) recorded a convincing 106 point victory over Glen Orden in Round 3 to re-establish their season after an away loss to Frankston Districts in Round 2.
A poignant moment took place prior to the first bounce, with Glen Orden and coburg players lining up and observing one minute silence and black arm bands in commemoration of the tragic death of 17 year old Glen Orden footballer Andrew Gilmore.
Facing the top side away, the Lions needed to assert their authority early and they managed to do that with aplomb, kicking 7 goals to nil in the first quarter.
With players returning from injury and absence, the Lions were strengthened across defence, midfield and up forward.
Goalsneak Billy Colosimo was outstanding with six goals and his mercurial efforts in the forward line set up many more. Regular ruckman Scott 'Wizz' Ryan relished his opportunity up forward with 6 goals, straighter kicking could have netted the big man double figures.
The inclusion of Kevin 'Tapper' Mathews in the ruck and Gary in the forward line for their first games also reaped rewards with both players making valuable contributions.
Coach Gubby was coy about the result suggesting that "the team still has alot of improvement with a greater attention to detail and focussing on 4 quarter footy whilst there are still players to return from injury".
In other results the woe for Coach Steve Moss continues after another loss to the Supers Division 3 team. It wasn't the fact that the team lost it's third game in a row but rather the way in which they lost.
The undermanned Masters battled wilfully against Glen Orden but eventually went down by 12 goals.
