The Lions got off to a flying start kicking with the aid of a slight breeze, booting 5 goals to 2 points. By halftime the Lions had managed to completely dominate Melbourne who failed to kick a goal in the first half.
Sugar dominated and at times it seemed as though he had his own football, collecting possessions at will. Chris Skeebs again was in and under, collecting numerous clearances from the stoppages.
The backline was rock solid conceding only two goals for the entire match. Up forward Dean Brincau stamped his presence on the game taking a high flying mark and booting three goals. It was a great return by the man they call "Hollywood" after returning from injury.
Coach Gubby was ecstatic with the win, "It was a great win, against quality opposition. The boys showed that they were switched on right from the first bounce and were'nt prepared to concede anything to Melbournë. It was also important to beat a team above us and prove to the knockers that we aren't flat track bullies".
The win puts the Lions second on the ladder and with finals around the corner it was important to maintain momentum.
The Lions have their final game of the season away to Old Scotch.
