Supers Take Down Reigning Premiers

23/4/2017

All teams wore black armbands in round 2 as a sign of respect to Reserves player Brad Meadows who’s father passed away recently. Players from both clubs also observed a minutes silence in the main game as a sign of remembrance to the fallen ANZACs.

A 6-goal haul from Tony Lombardi saw the Supers defeat the reigning premiers in Williamstown by 34-points. The Supers produced a fantastic brand of football to outplay Williamstown for most of the game including keeping Williamstown scoreless in the first term. This prompted Williamstown officials to cite that it is possibly the first time ever they have been held scoreless in a first quarter of football in their entire history. For the record books this was also greatest winning margin by a Coburg Supers team over Williamstown.

The only downside in this match was the late withdrawal Adam Lewis on the eve of his 50th game.

The Reserves had a promising start but after half-time the game the game got away from them and went down by 46-points. Bruno Scuilli kicked a goal on debut.

Earlier in the day Gary Gardener kicked two goals in his 100th game for the club and he became the 19th member to join the exclusive group of players reaching the 100 game milestone. Peter Ikosidekas kicked one on debut but again after a promising first quarter the Over 50’s fell away to a comprehensive defeat to the tune of 101-points.

Round 3 sees Coburg travel to take on an undefeated Parkdale, while the Over 50's make the trek to Geelong for their away clash.
